Refuge Murelli

Rifugio Murelli sits at 1,200m on the western shore of Lake Como, in the mountains above Moltrasio. The hut serves as a base for lake-view hikes and ridge traverses across the Como limestone range. Most approach routes start from villages on the lake—Moltrasio or Nesso—and take 2–3 hours to reach the hut, depending on your line. The terrain is steep and loose in places, so wear proper boots.

The rifugio has 24 beds across several rooms and runs a small restaurant serving home-cooked meals. Showers are available. The hut operates year-round, though winter opening depends on snow and road conditions—call ahead if you're coming November through March. It's a working base rather than a destination hut, so expect simple furnishings and a straightforward environment. The setting rewards early mornings: the lake and Pre-Alps fill the view as light breaks.

Book by phone with the Moltrasio section of CAI. July and August fill quickly; aim for 2–3 weeks ahead for summer weekends. Outside peak season, a few days' notice is usually enough. The hut has no website, so a phone call is your only booking option. Half-board (bed plus dinner and breakfast) is standard.
