Refuge Nicola

Rifugio Nicola sits at 1,864m in the Lombardy Alps, a solid day's walk from most valley trailheads. Access depends on your starting point—plan 4–5 hours from Schilpario or 3–4 hours from lower Bergamo valleys. The hut lies on established hiking routes crossing the mid-altitude ridges between major peaks. Morning light hits the refuge early; afternoon storms roll in fast at this elevation.

The rifugio has 24 beds split across simple rooms. Half and full board are standard. Kitchen facilities are basic—expect hearty Alpine fare, not restaurant cooking. The hut typically runs mid-June through September; opening depends on snow melt. Water comes from the mountain; showers are cold. The guardian manages the place hands-on, which means reliable service but no frills.
