Refuge Prou

Rifugio Prou sits at 2,015m in the Bergamo Alps of Lombardy, well positioned for day hikes into the surrounding peaks and ridge walks. Reach it from the Val Seriana valley via the village of Ardesio, then a steady 3–4 hour climb through forest and meadow to the hut. The approach is straightforward and popular with day walkers, though quieter than higher, more famous rifugios in the region.

The hut holds 15 beds across simple rooms. Meals are available and the kitchen produces solid mountain food. Water comes from the surrounding terrain. The hut operates year-round but functions mainly as a summer base (June–September) when the access tracks are reliably passable. Winter visits are possible but require checking conditions ahead. The setting is working mountain terrain, not a tourist destination—expect basic facilities and the company of serious hikers and mountaineers.

Phone ahead to book, especially for weekends and July–August. The hut takes walk-ins when space allows, but beds fill fast during good weather. Confirm road and path conditions in early season and autumn. Nearby rifugios in the Orobie range offer alternative bases if Prou is full, though none match its convenient position for lower-altitude approaches.
