Refuge Salmurano

Rifugio Salmurano sits at 1,848m in the Orobie Alps above the Val Brembana in Lombardy. Approach from Branzi village (2 hours, well-marked trail) or from Piazzatorre (2.5 hours). Both routes climb steadily through mixed forest and alpine pasture. The hut stands on a ridge with access to ridge-walking routes across the Orobie range.

The rifugio sleeps 40 across 11 private rooms and dormitories. Half-board includes a cooked dinner and breakfast. The kitchen serves straightforward mountain food: pasta, risotto, local cheeses, cured meats. The dining room is shared. Showers and toilets are basic. The hut operates year-round but is most reliable June through September. Winter access depends on snow conditions—email first. Electricity is limited; charge devices during daylight hours.

Book direct by email or phone. July and August fill 4–6 weeks ahead, especially weekends. Early June and September offer quieter conditions and the same walking. The hut prefers email booking with confirmation; phone works for immediate queries. Groups of 8+ should contact the manager a month in advance. Expect to pay €50–65 for half-board; private rooms cost more than dorm beds.
