Refuge Schiazzera

Rifugio Schiazzera sits at 2,567m in the Orobian Alps above the Val Seriana, Lombardy. Reach it from Piazzolo or Angone valley via marked trails—the route from Piazzolo takes 2.5 to 3 hours depending on snow cover. This is a working mountain hut in genuine terrain, not a scenic viewpoint.

The rifugio holds 43 beds across basic rooms. Half-board (dinner and breakfast included) is standard; packed lunches available on request. Water comes from the mountain; the hut has no shower. The kitchen serves solid Lombard food and local cheese. Staffing is seasonal—confirm opening dates before you go. The hut sits at the junction of several ridge walks and scrambles toward higher peaks, making it a practical base for a 2 or 3-day traverse rather than a destination in itself.

Winter hours are limited; staff is not always present December through March.
