About
Rifugio Scoggione sits at 1,575m on the western slopes of the Grigna massif in Lombardy, overlooking Lake Como. The hut is reached via the Piani di Artavaggio plateau, starting from the town of Olginate or the Artavaggio lift station. Most walkers arrive in 2 to 3 hours from the plateau. The approach is steady and well-marked, crossing open meadow and light forest. Winter snow can block access from December through March.
The refuge holds 24 beds in shared rooms with basic mountain accommodation. Half and full board are available; the kitchen serves filling meals sourced locally when possible. There is running water and toilet facilities. The hut opens from May through October and weekends in spring and autumn. It functions as a base for day hikes across the Grigna, particularly for routes to Punta Serrada (2,410m) and the limestone ridges beyond. A generator provides limited electricity after dark.
Book directly by phone or email with the CAI Colico section. July and August demand beds two to three months in advance. June and September are quieter but still require booking 4 to 6 weeks ahead. The refuge accepts groups but prefers advance notice of party size. Weather in the Grigna can turn rapidly; check conditions before departure and carry layers even on warm-looking days.
