Refuge Val Fraele

Rifugio Val Fraele sits at 1,954m in the Orobie Alps above the Val Seriana valley. Reach it from Castione della Presolana by hiking northeast for 3 hours through mixed woodland and alpine pasture. The final stretch crosses open terrain with clear views across the Lombard ranges. Winter access is difficult; plan a summer or autumn visit.

The hut sleeps around 40 people in mixed and private rooms. The kitchen serves hearty mountain food—expect pasta, polenta, and local cheese. Half-board is standard. The rifugio has a bar, basic shower facilities, and a wood stove. Water comes from the valley spring. Opening hours are May through September, with weekends-only service in shoulder months.
