About

Palazzina Sertorio sits at 1,910m in the Maritime Alps of Piedmont, above the Gesso di Boves valley. Reach it from Boves village by following the GTA (Grande Traversata delle Alpi) trail northeast for roughly 4–5 hours. The path climbs steadily through beech and larch forest, gaining 1,100m. In summer, you can shorten the approach via the Gesso river road (ask locally about road conditions). The hut works as a base for day hikes toward Cima della Roccia (2,612m) and the high plateaus around Passo della Lombarda.

The hut is small and simple, with capacity for around 30 guests. It runs as a family-managed refuge with dormitory beds and a few private rooms. Meals are basic but substantial—expect pasta, local cheese, and seasonal vegetables. Water comes from the spring. There is no shower. The hut operates year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions and is usually only feasible for experienced mountaineers. The keeper is usually present May through September; contact ahead for shoulder season visits.

Book by phone directly with the hut. It fills quickly in July and August, especially weekends. Call at least 3–4 weeks ahead for summer trips. Half-board (bed and meals) is standard. The hut lies within CAI territory, but operates independently rather than through the club system.
