About
Rifugio Alfredo Talarico sits at 1,980m on the slopes of Passo del Turchino in the Ligurian Apennines, on the border between Liguria and Piedmont. The hut is 4–5 hours' walk from Passo del Turchino (1,055m) via the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri. You can also approach from the Orba Valley on a steeper 3-hour route. Both paths are well-marked and straightforward.
The rifugio is a working mountain hut with 40 beds in dormitory rooms. The kitchen serves simple, hearty meals; half-board and full-board are available, and they will pack lunches for onward hikes. Water is reliable. The hut runs year-round but gets few visitors outside June to September. It functions as a base for ridge walking on the Alta Via and day walks into the surrounding beech and chestnut forest.
Book direct by email or phone. Summer weekends—especially July and August—fill up fast; contact the hut 2–3 weeks ahead. The CAI Genova section manages the hut, and you can also check rifugio listings on cai.it. The hut accepts both CAI members and non-members at the same rates. This is working mountain hospitality: expect basic comfort, reliable food, and knowledgeable staff.
