About

Rifugio non gestito del Clapis sits at 2,750m on the border between Piedmont and the Aosta Valley. The hut serves climbers approaching Mont Blanc massif peaks and hikers crossing the high terrain above the Val d'Aosta. Access from Rifugio Gouter takes 4–5 hours of steep, exposed scrambling. Most parties approach from the Italian side via the Chamonix-Gouter route or from Rifugio Maison Vieille in 3–4 hours of mixed terrain.

This is an unmanned refuge (non gestito). The hut has 4 beds and provides basic shelter only—no warden, no meals, no services. You'll find a roof, walls, and sleeping platforms. Bring your own food, stove fuel, and water. The hut operates year-round but is practical only in summer months (July through early September) when approaches are snow-free and weather stable. Winter access requires mountaineering skills and full winter equipment.

This is a self-service mountain shelter. Check conditions locally before attempting access—snow, rockfall, and weather close routes regularly. Bring a headtorch, map, compass, and rescue insurance. Report your plans to someone in the valley. No booking is needed, but expect very tight quarters if others arrive during good-weather windows. Leave the hut as you found it.
