About

Tällihütte sits at 1951m in the Pennine Alps on the border between Piedmont and Switzerland's Valais region. Reach it from Macugnaga in the Anzasca Valley via the hamlet of Pestarena (1,300m). The approach takes 4 hours on a well-marked trail that climbs steadily through larch forest and alpine meadow to the hut. This is a straightforward hill walk in good conditions, though snow lingers into June and the path can be slick after rain.

The hut sleeps around 50 people in mixed dorms and a few double rooms. Half-board meals are standard: cooking is straightforward mountain food with polenta, pasta, and local cheeses. The kitchen supplies tea and coffee all day. Showers are available but water is limited. Open mid-June to September. The hut sits on the Macugnaga-Wallis trekking route and serves climbers heading to peaks around Monte Rosa. From here you can make day trips to Gran Paradiso and beyond, or push on to Swiss refuges across the border.

Book through rifugi.net or contact the hut directly by phone. July and August weekends fill fast. Midweek you'll usually find space with 2-3 days' notice. The hut closes in winter and operates on a skeleton crew in shoulder months, so confirm opening dates before you go. The SAT (Società degli Alpinisti Tridentini) manages the hut and offers discounts to club members.

Tällihütte provides around 50 beds in mixed dorms and a few doubles, plus meals (breakfast and half/full board available); expect basic shower facilities typical of mountain huts.
The 4-hour approach is feasible for fit families and experienced hikers, but the demanding rating and alpine exposure make it better suited to those comfortable on mountain terrain; not ideal for young children or novice walkers.
