Dreischusterhütte - Rifugio Tre Scarperi

Dreischusterhütte sits at 1626m in the Zillertal, in the Zillertal Alps of Tyrol. You reach it from the village of Mayrhofen in 2 hours via the Stillup valley trail, a steady climb through forest that gains 700m. The trail is well-marked and suitable for fit day-hikers, though the steepness in the upper section demands proper boots. Mountain bikers can ride partway before the path becomes hiking-only.

The hut serves as a base for walks onto the surrounding meadows and ridge sections, with routes ranging from 1-hour circuits to half-day traverses toward neighboring huts. It operates year-round and sleeps around 50 people in mixed dormitories. The kitchen provides solid mountain food: hearty lunches and three-course dinners using local ingredients. The hut has running water, simple toilets, and a small shop for snacks and basic supplies. Electricity is generated by micro-hydro, so expect it to run intermittently. Showers are available but cost extra.

Book directly by phone or email. July and August fill 4-6 weeks ahead, especially weekends. Outside summer, you can usually find space with 2-3 days' notice. Staff speak German and English. Half-board (bed, dinner, breakfast) is mandatory in peak season. The hut closes for 2-3 weeks in late October for maintenance.
