About

The Dreizinnenhutte - Rifugio Antonio Locatelli (2,405 m) sits on the Forcella Toblin saddle directly opposite the north faces of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, in the Tre Cime Nature Park of the Sesto Dolomites, South Tyrol (municipality of Dobbiaco/Toblach, province of Bolzano). Owned by the Padua section of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI) and run for decades by the Reider family, it commands the single most photographed view in the Dolomites: the three great north walls rising beyond the small Laghi dei Piani. First built in 1882 by the German and Austrian Alpine Club, destroyed in the First World War and rebuilt in 1922, it carries the additional dedication to Sesto mountain guide Sepp Innerkofler, who fell on neighbouring Monte Paterno in 1915. Today it sleeps about 140 - 40 beds plus a 100-place dormitory - and is the busiest overnight stop on the Tre Cime circuit and the gateway to the Monte Paterno via ferratas through wartime tunnels. It opens from late June to late September. The easiest approach follows trail 101 from Rifugio Auronzo via Forcella Lavaredo in about 1.5 hours; longer routes climb from Val Fiscalina or Lake Landro in about 3 hours each.

Access Routes

From Rifugio Auronzo (Tre Cime toll road)

1h Easy

The classic leg of the Tre Cime circuit: trail 101 past Rifugio Lavaredo and over Forcella Lavaredo beneath the north faces, about 1.5 hours on a wide, well-graded path.

From Val Fiscalina (Dolomitenhof, Sesto)

3h Moderate

From the Dolomitenhof car park at the head of Val Fiscalina, trail 102 climbs the Val Sasso Vecchio (Altensteintal) directly to the hut, about 3 hours and roughly 950 m of ascent.

From Lake Landro (Hohlensteintal)

3h Moderate

Trail 102 ascends the long Valle della Rienza from Lake Landro on the Dobbiaco-Cortina road, about 3 hours with the Tre Cime north faces ahead the whole way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Book through the official site dreizinnenhuette.com, by phone at +39 0474 972002 (call 9-11 am or after 7 pm during the season) or by email to [email protected]. It is the most in-demand hut in the Tre Cime area - summer weekends sell out months ahead, and Saturday reservations are only accepted with half board.
The hut operates a short summer season from late June to late September (in recent years roughly 27 June to 27 September). Outside these dates it is closed, and there is no winter room service comparable to the summer operation, so plan Tre Cime hut-to-hut trips within this window.
Drive or take the shuttle up the toll road to Rifugio Auronzo (2,333 m), then follow wide trail 101 past Rifugio Lavaredo and Forcella Lavaredo beneath the Tre Cime; it takes about 1.5 hours with modest height gain. This is the route most day visitors use to reach the famous north-face viewpoint.
Yes, via the trail 101 approach from Rifugio Auronzo, which is broad, well-graded and non-technical in summer conditions - fit children do it routinely. The approaches from Val Fiscalina and Lake Landro are longer (around 3 hours, 900-plus metres of ascent) and better suited to regular hikers.
Full restaurant service with South Tyrolean cooking, a large panoramic terrace facing the Tre Cime north faces and Monte Paterno, beds with linen plus dormitory places, and half- or full-board options. Note the hut has no reliable internet connection, and mobile signal is patchy - a genuine high-mountain stay.
