Pitzingeralm

Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy
About
Pitzingeralm sits at 2,308m in the Zillertal Alps on the border between Trentino and Alto Adige. The hut is a 2.5-hour walk from Ginzling village (1,005m), following the Zillertal valley upstream via a well-marked summer path. You can shorten the approach by taking a lift or mountain bike to Bärenbadalm first. Winter access is severely limited; most years the hut closes from November to April.
The hut holds 50 people across simple dormitory rooms and a few doubles. Half-board is standard. The kitchen serves hearty Austrian-Tyrolean food heavy on soups, dumplings, and schnitzel. There's a small bar but no wifi. Facilities are basic but functional—cold water only in rooms, hot showers available downstairs. The hut works as a base for hikes to Schönbichl (2,656m) and traverses into the Zemmgrund. Experienced mountaineers use it as a staging point for mixed rock and snow routes on the 3,000m peaks to the west.
Book directly with the hut by phone or email. July and August fill quickly; aim for 6-8 weeks ahead. June and September are less crowded. The hut manages bookings independently, not through club systems. Check current opening dates before planning, as late spring snow closures are common. Half-board rates are roughly €55-70 per person per night depending on room type.

Yes for families with hiking experience—the approach is straightforward and well-marked, though 2.5 hours with 1,300m elevation gain requires decent fitness; the short-lift option from Bärenbadalm works well for younger children.
