Plattkofelhütte - Rifugio Sasso Piatto

Plattkofelhütte sits at 2,300m in the Zillertal Alps, a base for hiking the surrounding ridges and peaks. Reach it from Finkenberg by hiking the Zillertal trail northeast for 3 hours, gaining 1,100m steadily through forest then alpine meadow. The final approach crosses open slopes with views across the valley. You can also approach from the Zemmtal side, though this route is longer and less direct.
The hut holds 50 beds across mixed dormitory rooms. Half-board is standard—hearty evening meals and breakfast included. The kitchen serves simple, filling food. The hut has no WiFi, which suits the working pace of most hikers. Water comes from a spring. The hut operates year-round but is quietest November through March. The guardian manages it actively and welcomes self-catering groups with advance notice.
Book direct by phone 3–4 months ahead for summer weekends and July. Single nights are easier to arrange outside peak season. The hut fills quickly on holiday weekends. Call ahead even for one-night stays in summer to check availability. Winter visitors should confirm opening and staffing before you go.
