Rifugio Contrin

Rifugio Contrin sits at 2,016m in the Contrin Valley, a side valley off the Val di Fassa in the Dolomites. The approach takes 2.5 hours from Passo Fedare (1,896m) or 3 hours from Canazei via the valley trail. The valley itself is worth the time—larch forest gives way to alpine meadow, and the hut arrives suddenly against a backdrop of limestone walls. Strong walkers can reach it in under 2 hours from Passo Ghedina, though the path is steeper.
The hut has 112 beds across mixed dormitories and doubles. It serves breakfast and a three-course dinner using local ingredients. The kitchen keeps hours for packed lunches. Hot showers work, though water can run cold during peak season. The building is functional mountain infrastructure—well-maintained but not luxurious. The hut operates year-round but runs skeleton staff in winter; book ahead if visiting November–March. The valley becomes a serious snow corridor in winter, and avalanche risk exists on certain slopes above the hut.
