Rifugio Passo di San Nicolo

Rifugio Passo di San Nicolo sits at 2,340m on the Passo di San Nicolo, a key col on the border between Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The hut is accessible via the Sentiero Italia or from the Val di Sesis approach. Most hikers reach it in 3–4 hours from lower valleys, making it a solid mid-trip stop on north-south Alpine traverses. The pass itself offers views into both regions and connects to several high-altitude hiking routes across the Carnic Alps.
The rifugio has capacity for around 35 guests in dormitory accommodation. A mountain refuge kitchen provides half-board and full-board options, with hearty meals suited to the altitude and hiking demands. Basic facilities include a common room and drying room. The hut operates year-round, though winter conditions at this elevation mean you should check conditions before attempting winter visits.
Book directly by phone before your trip. Contact the hut at least 2–3 weeks ahead if visiting July or August. Outside peak season, a few days' notice usually suffices. The hut fills quickly during the height of summer when through-hikers are following the main Alpine routes, so don't leave it to chance if you're planning a fixed itinerary.
