Rifugio Malga Caldenave "Claudio e Renzo"

Rifugio Malga Caldenave sits at 1792m in the Brescia Alps, accessed from the Val Trompia valley. The approach hike takes 2.5 hours from Collio, climbing steadily through mixed forest and alpine meadow. You can also reach it from Passo della Bozza (1.5 hours) if you're linking multiple huts. The location works well as a base for day walks into the surrounding peaks or as a waypoint on longer traverses across the region.
The rifugio has 20 beds split across simple rooms. Meals are hearty and fuel-focused—expect pasta, polenta, and local cheese rather than fine dining. There's a small bar. Toilet facilities are basic but clean. It operates year-round, though staffing is light in winter months, so confirm before arriving outside the main season (May to October). Phone ahead if you're coming between November and April.
