About
The Schlüterhütte (Rifugio Genova, 2,306 m) stands on the grassy saddle country below Passo Poma at the northern edge of the Puez-Odle Nature Park, in the municipality of Funes/Villnöss, South Tyrol (province of Bolzano), between Val di Funes and Passo delle Erbe. Built by Dresden patron Franz Schlüter and donated to the DÖAV Dresden section in 1898, it became Italian state property after the First World War — hence the name Rifugio Genova — and was managed by the CAI Bressanone section from 1946; since 1 January 2011 it has been owned by the Autonomous Province of Bolzano and is run by tenants Marlene and Martin Nitz. It is the end of the first (or second) stage of Alta Via 2 from Bressanone and a stop on the Munich–Venice trail, with superb views of the Odle/Geisler peaks made famous by Val di Funes postcards. The hut offers 38 beds in 19 rooms plus 49 dormitory places, hot showers and hearty South Tyrolean cooking, open from mid-June to mid-October (2026: 13 June – 11 October). The easiest approach is the roughly 2-hour walk from the Zannes/Zans car park (1,685 m) in Val di Funes via the Gampen alp; from Passo delle Erbe allow about 2–2.5 hours.

From the Zannes/Zans car park (1,685 m) at the end of Val di Funes, an easy, well-signed walk via the Gampen alp (paths 33 then 35) gains about 620 m and takes roughly 2 hours. The track is also popular with mountain bikers.
Yes — the Zans approach is a straightforward walk on good paths, and the hut's meadow setting under the Odle/Geisler peaks is a rewarding first hut night. Rooms as well as dorms are available; showers cost a few euros in tokens.
The hut is the classic first overnight on Dolomites Alta Via 2 from Bressanone, lies on high route 8 and is a stage stop on the Munich–Venice (München–Venedig) dream trail. From here Alta Via 2 continues south across Forcella de la Roa toward Rifugio Puez.
