Valle d'Aosta, Italy
About
Bric Filia sits at 2,485m on the eastern slopes of the Gran Paradiso massif in Valle d'Aosta. Reach it from Pont, a small hamlet on the SS26 road between Aosta and Cogne. The approach takes 4–5 hours on foot, climbing steep woodland and pasture through the Valnoontey valley. Mules can carry loads in summer if arranged ahead. The hut marks the start of serious mountaineering routes on Gran Paradiso and serves climbers tackling the 4,061m summit via the north face.
The hut has 40 beds in dormitory rooms and a handful of private doubles. The guardian runs a simple kitchen with fixed menus at dinner; packed lunches available on request. Water comes from a mountain spring. There's no shower. The rifugio opens from June to September, weather permitting. Winter access is possible for equipped parties but the hut is not staffed.
Book directly with the guardian by phone: +39 0165 74950. July and August require booking 4–6 weeks ahead, especially for weekends. June and early September are quieter. The hut is managed independently (not affiliated with CAI or SAT), so check current opening dates and staffing before departing. Mobile phone signal is unreliable at the hut—contact them before you leave home.
