Bivouac Invernale Matteo Fiori

Bivacco Invernale Matteo Fiori sits at 2,847m in the Bergamasque Alps, on the north side of Pizzo Camosero. The hut is accessible year-round via a marked trail from Rifugio Brunone (1,680m) in roughly 4 hours. From the Serina Valley trailhead, allow 5–6 hours total. The route climbs steeply through forest initially, then opens to alpine terrain with cairn marking. Winter access requires winter mountaineering skills and avalanche awareness.
This is a staffed winter refuge with capacity for around 25 people in dormitory arrangements. The hut provides hot meals and drinks, though facilities are basic and match the exposed location. Water comes from snowmelt or piped sources depending on season. The refuge operates year-round, primarily serving mountaineers doing winter ascents of Pizzo Camosero and traverses in the surrounding peaks. Summer use is lighter since most hikers prefer staffed rifugios lower down.
Book directly by phone or email 2–3 weeks ahead, especially for weekends and winter holiday periods (December–January and February half-term). The hut owner provides current conditions reports and can advise on route safety. Expect basic comfort and bring your own sleeping bag liner—winter mountaineering experience is essential, not just hiking fitness.
