Ricovero Casera Laghet de Sora
2.7About
The refuge functions as a simple mountain shelter rather than a full service hut. It has basic dormitory sleeping for roughly 15–20 people. There's a small kitchen and common space for self-catering groups, though you should expect to bring most supplies from lower elevations. Water is available from the lake or nearby springs. The hut operates year-round in theory, but staffing and services are minimal outside summer months (June to September). Winter access requires serious experience and proper winter kit.
Contact the hut directly before visiting, especially outside peak season. There's no formal booking system—show up or call ahead to confirm someone's present. July and August see regular weekend traffic from Forni di Sopra day-walkers and overnighters. For mountaineering objectives on the surrounding ridges (Creta di Timau, Monte Coglians approaches), arrive with your own provisions and expect self-sufficiency. The hut serves primarily as a basecamp for alpine work in this quieter sector of the Carnics.
