Rifugio "Capanna degli Alpini"

Capanna degli Alpini sits at 1387m in the Lombardy Alps, accessible from the town of Schilpario via the Val di Scalve. The hut sits on the main hiking route to Pizzo Camosero (2,564m) and serves as a base for day walks across the surrounding meadows and limestone ridges. Most hikers reach it in 2 hours from Schilpario, following a well-marked path that gains 600m steadily through beech forest. The hut also works as a rest point on longer valley traverses in the region.

The rifugio has 40 beds across multiple rooms and offers basic mountain meals—expect hearty pasta, local cheeses, and cured meats. Staff run it seasonally from June through September, with weekends only in shoulder months. There's no electricity generated on-site, so lights run on gas and water comes from a spring. Showers are available but limited. The building itself dates to the 1970s and reflects typical Alpine hut simplicity: functional rather than fancy.

Book directly by phone or email at least 2 weeks ahead during July and August. Weekends fill quickly even in June and September. The hut sits on the boundary between summer hiking season and autumn, making late August through early September the best window for avoiding crowds while the weather remains stable.
