About
Rifugio Lausen sits at 2,176m in the Dolomites, on the Tre Cime di Lavaredo approach from the west. Reach it from Cortina d'Ampezzo via the Passo Ghedina road (40 minutes by car to the trailhead), then 2.5 hours on foot. The path climbs steadily through larch forest before breaking into open alpine meadow. Most hikers use this hut as a base for Tre Cime circuits or as a waypoint on longer Dolomite traverses.
The rifugio has 80 beds across multiple rooms. Half-board is standard (dinner, bed, breakfast included). The kitchen serves solid mountain food: pasta, polenta, local cheeses, and game when available. Showers cost extra. The hut opens mid-June through mid-September, closing during snowmelt in May and early June. Staff speak Italian and basic English. Phone and email reservations are accepted.
Book directly 6-8 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Phone +39 0436 860800 or email to confirm availability before committing to your route. July and August Saturdays fill completely. June and September offer more flexibility but weather window is narrower. The hut can accommodate large groups but requires advance notice. Arrive by 3pm to claim your mattress.
