About

The Zsigmondy-Comici Hütte (Rifugio Zsigmondy-Comici) sits at 2,224 m at the head of the Fischleintal (Val Fiscalina), directly beneath the great south wall of the Zwolferkofel (Croda dei Toni), deep in the Sexten Dolomites of South Tyrol above Sesto/Sexten — not, as sometimes stated, above Cortina d'Ampezzo. It is one of the most strategically placed huts in the eastern Dolomites, ringed by dramatic peaks and via ferrata terrain and within easy reach of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo circuit. The hut is named after the Viennese alpinist Emil Zsigmondy and the celebrated climber Emilio Comici.

The original refuge was built in 1886, destroyed by artillery fire in 1915, and rebuilt by the CAI section of Padua in 1929. Today it is owned by the Autonomous Province of Bolzano and managed jointly by the AVS and CAI, with the Happacher family as wardens. It offers around 80 places (about 40 beds plus 40 dormitory spots) and a full meals service, plus an unheated winter room. It is normally staffed from mid-June to mid/late September. The classic approach climbs the Fischleintal from the Fischleinboden car park past the Talschlusshütte (Rifugio Fondovalle), and the hut is a stage on the Alta Via No. 5.
