Koschutahaus / Hut pod Košuto

Koschutahaus sits at 1280m on the northern slopes of Košuta in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. The hut is accessible from Stahovica village (about 2 hours on foot) or from the Kamnik side. Most hikers approach via the marked trail from Stahovica, which climbs steadily through beech forest before opening onto alpine pasture. The location works well as a base for Košuta itself (2000m, another 2–3 hours) or for traversing toward Plešivec and the wider ridge system.

The hut operates year-round and offers 20–30 beds in mixed dormitory rooms. Meals are available if you book ahead; half-board is standard for overnight guests. The hut has showers—rare for mountain huts at this elevation—making it comfortable for longer stays. The warden can advise on route conditions and seasonal access; the approach from Stahovica remains walkable in winter, though snow cover affects timing. Supplies in Stahovica are limited, so bring what you need or plan carefully.

Book a week ahead for weekends in summer. July and August see steady traffic from local hikers, but the hut rarely fills completely. Spring (May–June) and autumn (September–October) offer quieter conditions and reliable weather for ridge walking.
