Obiralm

Obiralm sits at 1272m on the eastern slopes of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, accessed from the village of Luče in the Savinja Valley. The approach takes 2 to 2.5 hours on a well-marked trail that gains roughly 400m elevation. In winter or after heavy snow, the path can be steep and slippery—microspikes or winter boots are essential. The hut makes a natural base for day trips to nearby peaks and ridge traverses across this quieter range.

Obiralm is a working alpine hut managed by PZS with around 40 beds split between dorm rooms and a few private rooms. Half-board and full-board options are available; the kitchen handles vegetarian meals on request. Water comes from a spring on the premises. The hut operates year-round, though winter conditions can make access tricky—check with the keeper before heading up in snow. Mobile signal is unreliable; bring a paper map. The hut has basic heating but no shower.

Book ahead during July and August, especially weekends. Contact the hut directly by phone or email through the PZS website. Weekday visits outside peak season rarely require advance notice. The hut is small and fills quickly during school holidays.
