Pastirska Hut na Planini Planinica

Pastirska Koča sits at 1,531m on Planina Planinica in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. Reach it from the village of Luče (follow signs for Planina Planinica). The main approach is a 2.5-hour hike via the Luče valley, gaining 700m steadily through forest and pasture. The trail is well-marked and generally straightforward. You can also approach from Kamniška Bistrica to the south, though this is longer. The hut lies on the main hiking route between the lower valleys and higher Alpine peaks in this region, making it a logical base or overnight stop.
The hut offers basic mountain accommodation with around 30 beds spread across simple rooms. The kitchen serves traditional Slovenian fare including hearty soups, local cheese, and bread. Water comes from the mountain spring. There is no electricity or running water in rooms—this is a shepherd's hut operating as a mountain shelter, not a resort. It functions year-round, though winter access may require special conditions. Staffing depends on season; call ahead to confirm meals in shoulder months. The hut is run by PZS (Planinska zveza Slovenije).
Book directly with the hut by phone several weeks ahead for summer weekends. July and August are busy. Winter visits require coordination in advance. Payment is cash only. The hut is a solid choice if you want authentic Alpine shelter without modern amenities, and a good jumping-off point for day walks to peaks like Ojstrica or further exploration of the Planina Planinica plateau.
