Allmi / Läger

Bernese Oberland, Switzerland

About

Allmi sits at 2,437m in the Gadmen Valley, a quiet corner of the Bernese Oberland east of Meiringen. Reach it on foot from Gadmen village (1,202m) via a clear track that climbs through forest and meadow—allow 3 hours. The hut is also accessible from the Sustli area via the Sustli Pass (2,293m), a route favoured by trekkers linking the Gadmen and Engstligen valleys. This is genuine mountain terrain, not a day-walk destination.
Allmi is a simple, working mountain hut run by locals rather than the SAC. It sleeps around 30 people in basic dormitory accommodation. Meals are available—bring a request when you book. The hut has no WiFi or mobile signal, which is the point. Water comes from the mountain and toilets are functional. Open summer season only, typically June to September depending on snow. This is a base for hiking into the surrounding high country, including routes toward the Spannort massif and neighboring valleys.
Book well ahead in July and August—the hut fills with families and hiking groups. Call directly to confirm current opening dates and meal availability, as staffing can vary. The hut keeps old-fashioned hours; arrive by early evening. Bring a headtorch and expect an early breakfast. This hut demands self-reliance and rewards silence.
