Eiger-Ostegghütte

Eiger-Ostegghütte sits at 2320m on the eastern flank of the Eiger, in the heart of the Bernese Oberland. Reach it from Grindelwald via the Schwarzwaldalp cable car station, then hike east across alpine meadows toward the Eiger's base. The walk takes roughly 2 hours from the cable car terminus. The hut is well-positioned for climbers and hikers heading to or returning from the Eiger North Face approach gully, and for traverses across the Eiger Joch toward Jungfraujoch.
The hut operates as a simple alpine shelter with 12 beds spread across shared dormitory rooms. Meals are provided by the hut keeper—bring your appetite, as you'll have no option to cook your own food. Drinking water is available on-site. The hut typically opens from June through September, depending on snow conditions and staffing. Winter access is not reliable.
Book directly with the hut by phone or email well ahead if you're planning a July or August visit, particularly during school holidays. The hut fills quickly with groups climbing or traversing the Eiger massif. Confirm opening dates before departure, as late spring snow can delay access or force temporary closures.
