Berglihütte

Berglihütte sits at 3,299m on the Glarus Alps' eastern slopes, accessed most directly from Elm in the Säntis massif. The standard approach takes 4–5 hours from Elm village, following the Äschen valley past Äschental before ascending steep terrain to the hut. Winter access requires mountaineering experience and avalanche awareness. The hut also serves climbers on Säntis (2,502m) and as a staging point for traverses through the high plateaus.
The SAC manages this simple alpine hut with 30 beds in dormitory rooms. Meals are provided: hearty dinners and breakfasts fuel early starts. The hut has no shower facilities—expect a basic mountain setup. Water comes from snowmelt (seasonal availability). The hut is staffed from late June through September. Outside this window, the hut operates unstaffed (bring your own food, sleep in the unlocked winter room). Storms can close the hut rapidly given its exposed position.
Book direct with the SAC section managing the hut if staying July–August; reserve 4–6 weeks ahead for weekends. June and September offer more availability. Check current staffing status and water conditions before visiting outside peak season. The hut sits in avalanche terrain—assess conditions carefully in spring and after heavy snow. Mobile coverage is unreliable; plan accordingly.
