Lauteraarhütte

Lauteraarhütte sits at 2393m in the Bernese Oberland, perched above the Lauter Glacier in a remote corner of the range. Reach it from Guttannen in 4–5 hours via Gärstenhütte and Unteraargletscher, or from the east via Unteraarjoch in 3–3.5 hours. The approach crosses glacier and rocky terrain—not technical, but you need sure footing and mountain sense. This is a true backcountry hut, not a day-trip destination.
The hut sleeps 28 across multiple rooms and is run by SAC Zofingen. The kitchen serves hot meals—book these when you reserve—or use the self-catering kitchen to cook your own food. Water comes from a reliable mountain source. The hut opens mid-June through September, though exact dates depend on glacier and weather conditions. Check with the hut directly before committing to a spring or autumn trip. Solar panels power the hut, so expect limited electricity outside daylight hours.
