Obere Euschels

Obere Euschels sits at 1550m in the Diemtigtal valley, southeast of Thun in the Bernese Oberland. Reach it from Oey-Diemtigen by hiking 1.5 hours up the valley floor, following marked paths through mixed forest and pasture. The approach is steady but not steep. From the hut, trails connect to higher alpine terrain—the Egg (2278m) is reachable in 2 hours for stronger hikers, and you can link into longer multi-day routes across the region.
Obere Euschels is a modest alpine inn rather than a mountain hut in the SAC tradition. The building has around 30 beds in simple rooms. The kitchen serves hot meals and packed lunches. A small bar and common room provide shelter during weather. Water comes from a spring. The hut operates year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions and can involve longer travel times.
Book directly with the hut by phone or email. The hut is popular with local Swiss hikers on weekends and fills regularly in summer Saturdays—aim to book at least two weeks ahead for July and August. Spring and autumn offer quieter conditions. Winter visits are possible but confirm conditions and staff availability first. The hut also accepts day visitors for meals if you're walking through the valley.
