Waldhütte

Waldhütte sits at 2,284m in the Uri Alps, serving hikers and mountaineers crossing the high passes between the Gotthard region and central Switzerland. The main approach is from Göschenen (800m), a 4.5-hour push gaining 1,500m via the Göschemalp. In winter and early spring, access is via Andermatt (1,444m) along a shorter but exposed ridge route—only for experienced winter mountaineers. The hut also works as a basecamp for peaks in the surrounding ranges, including routes to Tieralplistock and Wissberg.
Waldhütte has 40 beds split across mixed dormitories and a few double rooms. The SAC-affiliated hut serves three meals daily: substantial breakfast, lunch packs, and hot dinner. A small kitchen is available if you bring your own supplies. The hut runs year-round, though staffing and heating vary by season—confirm winter opening before traveling. Showers are available (coin-operated). Mobile signal is patchy; come prepared without relying on connectivity.
Book directly by email or phone, especially for July and August when the hut fills fast—aim for at least 4–6 weeks ahead for peak season. Winter visits require advance notice to confirm staff presence. The hut prefers direct contact over third-party booking platforms, so call or email first. Half-board (bed plus dinner and breakfast) is standard. Arrive by late afternoon; the kitchen closes by 9pm.
