Waldhütte Aesch

Waldhütte Aesch sits at 1,328m on the edge of the Jura Mountains near Aesch, in Basel-Landschaft canton. It's a working base for hikes into the limestone ridges and forests of this region. The hut lies roughly 1.5 hours on foot from Aesch village, accessible via marked trails that climb steadily through beech forest. Most hikers approach from the northwest along the ridge line toward Wasserfallen. Winter access may be complicated by snow and ice on steeper sections—check conditions before departure.
The hut offers 64 beds across several sleeping areas, with flush toilets and reliable drinking water. Meals are prepared on-site; half-board and full-board arrangements work well for 2–3 day trips combining ridge walking and valley exploration. The hut operates year-round, though winter management varies—confirm availability before traveling in January and February. It functions as both a destination and a waypoint on longer Jura traverses.
Book by email or phone. Summer weekends (June to September) fill weeks in advance, particularly if you want private or small-group rooms. Weekdays are less pressured. The hut accommodates school groups and larger parties, so ring ahead if you're part of a group of more than six people. Arrive by mid-afternoon to secure hot water for washing and to eat dinner at a reasonable hour.
