Martinsmadhütte

Martinsmadhütte sits at 2002m in the Glarus Alps, accessed from the Klöntal valley. Most hikers start from Glarus town and take the PostAuto bus to Näfels, then walk up through Klöntal to the hut. The hiking time from Klöntal is roughly 3 hours. The hut stands on the Martinsmad plateau, a transit point on routes between the Säntis massif and the Glarus valley. Winter snow closes the access road to Klöntal, so check conditions before visiting outside summer months.
The hut holds 40 beds across multiple rooms and operates as a SAC Sektion Randen facility. The guardian serves meals at set times; the hut also has a self-catering kitchen if you bring your own food. Drinking water is available on-site. The hut is typically open from late spring through early autumn, though you should verify current opening dates directly. It functions as a working base for ridge walking and day hikes across the surrounding plateau rather than a summit destination.
Book by email or phone well ahead if you're planning a weekend visit in July or August. SAC members receive preference for bed allocation, so non-members should contact the hut early. Email the hut directly to confirm opening dates, meal availability, and current trail conditions. Phone ahead during peak season to secure beds rather than relying on walk-in availability.
