Murgseehütte

Murgseehütte sits at 1817m on the eastern shore of Murgsee, a glacial lake in the Glarus Alps. Reach it from Elm village in 2 hours via a well-marked trail that climbs steadily through forest and alpine meadow. The hut is staffed year-round and serves as a base for day hikes to Säntis (2502m) and circuits around the Murg valley. Winter access is possible but depends on snow conditions—contact ahead if visiting November to March.
The hut has 40 beds across shared dormitories. Half-board is standard: dinner, overnight stay, and breakfast run CHF 130–145 per person depending on season. The kitchen serves simple, hearty meals; vegetarian options available with advance notice. Drinking water comes directly from Murgsee. WiFi is available in the main hut but don't rely on signal for emergencies—the hut has a radio. Showers and toilets are functional but basic; water is heated by solar panels and wood stove.
Book at least 4 weeks ahead, especially for July and August weekends. July to September is peak season; June and September shoulder months offer better availability. October onwards, confirm opening dates by phone, as staffing drops and weather becomes unpredictable.
