Bivacco Curciusa

Bivacco Curciusa sits at 2,400m in the remote upper Prättigau region of Graubünden. Reach it via the village of Schlappin, where a rough road ends near Sappünerbach. From there, allow 3–4 hours on foot through alpine meadows and scree to the hut. The approach is steep and exposed in places; scrambling experience helps. This is a serious approach, not a casual afternoon walk. Snow blocks the route from November through May.
The bivacco is a small, unstaffed shelter with 11 beds in tight quarters. You'll find drinking water from a nearby spring. Bring all food and fuel—there's no guardian, no hot meals, no cooking facilities beyond your stove. It's basic mountain shelter, not a service hut. The hut sits on the border zone between the Appenzell Alps and the Säntis region, useful for traverses or as a high camp for mountaineering objectives in the area.
The bivacco operates year-round in theory, but practical access is summer and early autumn only. Reserve ahead through the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) or contact the Appenzell Alps section directly—exact procedures vary. Bring a headtorch, navigation skills, and expect to be self-sufficient.
