Cabin Volta

Capanna Volta sits at 2,212m on the Splügen Pass (Spügen), a key crossing between Switzerland's Graubünden region and Italy's Bergell Valley. Approach from the south via Spügen village (2.5 hours) or from the north starting at Nufenen (3 hours). Both routes are straightforward mountain paths without serious scrambling, suitable for fit hikers on summer days.
The hut sleeps 40 people across 3 private rooms and dormitory beds. The CAI-managed facility offers simple meals—breakfast and evening dinner—using local ingredients when possible. There's a small bar for coffee and drinks. Expect basic facilities: no WiFi, pit toilets, and water from mountain springs. The hut opens year-round but is reliably staffed May through October. Winter and shoulder seasons require confirmation before arrival.

The hut suits hikers crossing the Splügen Pass, mountain bikers using the high-altitude road, and day visitors from valley trailheads.
