Chamanna Da Boval CAS

Chamanna Da Boval sits at 2,495m on the Albula Pass, between the Prättigau valley to the north and the Oberhalbstein valley to the south in Graubünden. The hut serves as a natural base for traversing this high-altitude terrain. Most hikers approach from Prättigau via the Schanfigg valley in roughly 4 hours, or from the south via Oberhalbstein in 3–4 hours. Direct access from Prättigau's rail station at Schiers takes 5–6 hours of hiking. The hut's position makes it ideal for multi-day tours connecting the northern and southern valleys.
The SAC-managed hut has 80 beds across multiple rooms. Hot meals are served daily, and the kitchen provides packed lunches on request. Drinking water is available from the hut's supply. The season runs from late May through October, though snow can linger into June. Winter closures are common. Facilities are basic but functional: dormitory sleeping, shared bathrooms, and a communal dining area. The hut lacks electricity and mobile signal. Book meals when you reserve your bed, as the kitchen needs numbers by early afternoon.
Reserve by email or phone at least 2–3 weeks ahead during July and August. June, September, and early October are less pressured. Contact the hut directly rather than using intermediaries—staff can advise on current trail conditions and weather. Groups larger than 20 should book two months in advance.
