Vecchia Cabin Marco e Rosa de Marchi

Vecchia Capanna Marco e Rosa de Marchi sits at 2,581m in the Albula Alps, reached via the Val da Fex from Sils Maria in the Upper Engadin. The approach takes 3 hours on foot, climbing 800m through larch forest and alpine meadow. The hut is also accessible from Preda (2.5 hours) via the Alp Grüm route. Winter access depends on snow conditions and avalanche stability. Most parties arrive in summer and autumn when the trails are reliable.
The CAI-managed hut has 38 beds across multiple dormitories. Meals are available for residents and day visitors, though you should call ahead to arrange dinner. Water comes from a spring near the hut. The kitchen is basic but functional. The hut typically operates from June through September, with winter use possible only for experienced parties with prior arrangement. Solar panels provide some electricity; there is no mobile coverage.
Book directly with CAI Sezione Valtellinese-Sondrio as early as possible for July and August weekends. Email or phone at least 2 weeks ahead during peak season. The hut fills quickly with groups. Arrive by mid-afternoon to secure a good bunk position. Bring your own sleeping bag and towel. Payment is in cash or by bank transfer before arrival.
