Heidelberger Hütte sits at 2,264m in the Prättigau valley of Graubünden, on the border between Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The hut is reached from Schäfers in roughly 2.5 hours via a steep forest path, or from Bad Ragaz in about 5 hours. Most hikers approach from the Schäfers side. The location puts you on the main ridge between Säntis and Appenzell Alps terrain, making it a hub for ridge walks and traverses across northeastern Switzerland.
The hut is managed by DAV (Deutscher Alpenverein) and accommodates 156 guests in shared dormitories. Meals are served daily: hearty dinners, packed lunches to order, and substantial breakfasts. If you prefer to cook, there's a self-catering kitchen available. Showers and drinking water are provided. The hut operates year-round, though opening hours vary by season—check before traveling in winter or shoulder months. There's no WiFi, which is fine if you're actually trying to rest.
