Chamonna Tuoi

Chamonna Tuoi sits at 2,250m in the Albula Alps, deep in the Graubünden backcountry. The hut sits on the Val Tuoi, a remote valley northeast of Preda. Most hikers reach it from Preda (1,800m) via a 3-hour walk up the valley, following the stream through larch forest and open pasture. In summer you can approach from the Julier Pass or from the Lai da Marmorera direction—the valley gives good options depending on your route.

The hut is managed as a self-catering and serviced alpine hut with capacity for 74 people across multiple dormitory rooms. Hot meals are available if you book ahead, or you can use the kitchen to cook your own food. Drinking water comes from the stream. The hut sits in true mountain country, well away from tourist trails, making it a solid base for multi-day treks through the high pastures and ridges of the Albula Alps. It operates year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions and is normally only feasible for experienced ski-tourers.

Contact the hut directly by email or phone to arrange meals and check availability. Book at least 4-6 weeks ahead for July and August, when the valley draws hikers doing longer Graubünden traverses. Summer weekends and Swiss school holidays fill quickly. In shoulder seasons (June and September) the hut is quieter and easier to book.
