Oberzalimhütte

Oberzalimhütte sits at 1889m in the Prättigau valley of Graubünden, on the border between Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The hut is reached from Schiers or via the Scesaplana massif. Most hikers approach from Schiers village (about 1.5 hours on foot) or from the Scesaplana summit (2,259m) on a 2–3 hour descent. The location makes it a solid base for traversing between the Rhine valley and higher Alpine terrain.

The DAV (Deutscher Alpenverein) manages the hut, with the DAV Mannheim section overseeing operations. It has capacity for around 30 people in mixed dormitories. Half-board is available; bring cash as card payments aren't always possible. Showers are on-site, which is good news after a multi-day trek. The hut operates year-round, though winter conditions above 1800m demand proper boots and awareness. Meals are simple and substantial—expect hearty stews and bread, not fancy fare. Book a table for dinner if you're arriving late.

Contact the hut directly by phone or email to reserve a bed, especially for weekends and summer months (June–September). Groups of 8 or more should book at least two weeks ahead. Payment is typically in cash at the hut, though you can confirm payment methods when booking.
