Refuge Luigi Albani

Rifugio Luigi Albani sits at 1,939m on the slopes above Roncobello in the Bergamo Alps, in Lombardy's Orobie range. Reach it from Roncobello village (accessible by car or bus from Bergamo) in roughly 2 hours on foot. The trail climbs steadily through mixed woodland then opens onto alpine meadows as you approach the hut. The setting is workable rather than dramatic—good for walkers wanting a base for ridge traverses and peak bagging in the Orobie, not for those seeking isolation.
The hut holds 40 beds across simple shared rooms. Meals are standard Italian mountain fare: pasta, polenta, local cheeses, and decent coffee. Hot showers are available. The refuge opens year-round but is quietest November to March. Summer weekends draw Bergamo day-hikers and families. The hut works well as a staging point for routes into the Tagliere plateau or climbs toward higher peaks in the range.
Book directly with CAI Bergamo by phone or email at least 2 weeks ahead for weekends. July and August weekends fill quickly. Weekday visits outside summer need less notice. Half-board (bed and dinner) or full board options are standard. Pay cash preferred, though card payments may be arranged when booking.
