Refuge Maria e Franco Lomini

Rifugio Maria e Franco Lomini sits at 2,572m in the Brescia Alps, easily reached from the Garzeno valley on the Italian side of the border. The approach takes 2.5 to 3 hours from the roadhead at Collio, following a well-marked trail that gains roughly 800m elevation. The refuge works as a natural base for traverses across the Brescia group and access to surrounding peaks above 3,000m.
The refuge provides 37 beds across multiple rooms and serves meals from a small kitchen. Hot water and basic washing facilities are available. The season runs from June through September, weather permitting. The hut operates year-round for mountaineers on weekends only. CAI manages the hut to the standard you'd expect from the Italian Alpine Club—straightforward, functional, and focused on serious hikers rather than casual day-trippers. Meals are hearty and fuel-efficient, with vegetarian options available if requested in advance.
