Refuge Pianezza

Rifugio Pianezza stands at 1,259m in the Val Bregaglia, southern Graubünden, roughly 90 minutes' walk from Bondo village. The approach follows the valley floor on a well-marked trail, gaining minimal elevation—straightforward terrain suitable for anyone with basic fitness. The hut serves as a solid base for day walks into the surrounding granite peaks and as an acclimatization stop for climbers heading to higher routes in the Bregaglia massif.

The refuge offers around 40 beds in mixed dormitory rooms and a handful of private doubles. Meals are simple and hearty: expect pasta, polenta, and local cheese. The kitchen can handle dietary requests if given notice. The hut has running water and basic washing facilities; no shower. It operates year-round, though staffing is lighter in winter—check ahead if visiting November to March. The SAC manages the hut and maintains the surrounding trail network.

Book direct by phone or email at least 2 weeks ahead for weekends, especially June through September. Weekdays outside summer rarely fill. The hut sits near the Italian border and draws a mixed crowd of Swiss hikers and international climbers; the atmosphere is relaxed and work-focused rather than resort-like. Cell reception is adequate. Bring cash—card payments are unreliable this far into the valley.
