Schiazzera Invernale

Schiazzera Invernale sits at 2,110m in the Prättigau valley, deep in the Scesaplana massif. The hut sits 4.5 hours from Schruns (1,344m) on foot, following the Güterweg past Saalervorsäss. The route climbs steadily through alpine meadows and into sparse larch forest. Winter access requires ski or snowshoe from the same trailhead. This is a serious approach—hire a mountain guide if the conditions are uncertain. The hut works as a base for climbing Scesaplana (2,964m) and traversing the Prättigau ridge, and as a refuge for skiers crossing the high passes.
The hut is managed by the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) and runs as a staffed refuge through summer and autumn, with winter access by arrangement for groups with avalanche experience. The main building holds about 60 beds across dorms and a few private rooms. Evening meals are simple and filling. There is no electricity or running water—you'll melt snow or collect water from the cistern. The kitchen is equipped for group self-catering. Open mid-June to mid-October; winter use by prior arrangement with the warden.
Book June through August at least 4 weeks ahead. Contact the hut directly or through the SAC reservation system. The hut is quietest in June and September. Most climbers aim for Scesaplana from here during July and August on settled weather windows.
