Cabin Mognone

Capanna Mognone sits at 1,463m in the Val Bavona, a side valley southeast of the Gotthard Pass in Ticino. The hut lies on the route between the villages of Bignasco and Robiei, making it a natural overnight stop for hikers traversing the region. Most walkers approach from Bignasco (1,250m) via a marked trail that takes roughly 2 hours and gains 215m steadily through mixed forest. The path is well-established and straightforward. Alternative access comes from the Robiei direction for those descending from higher terrain.
The hut operates as a small, intimate base with 12 beds across simple rooms, including one private option. You sleep here and eat here—there is no kitchen for self-catering. Meals are provided by the hut (half-board or full-board basis). Drinking water is available on site. The season runs mid-June through mid-September; winter access is not reliable. The hut suits hikers who want basic comfort on valley floors or those making short explorations into the surrounding terrain rather than high alpine ventures.
