Ex Caserma della Finanza sits at 2,621m on the Colle della Finanza, a windswept pass between the Orco and Soana valleys in the Gran Paradiso massif. Reach it from Ceresole Reale by hiking the Strada Reale track in 4 hours, gaining 900m steadily through larch forest and open pasture. The hut occupies a converted military barracks—hence the name—and serves as a critical waypoint for trekkers crossing the high passes between the Orco and Soana. The location is stark and exposed; don't underestimate the weather up here.

The hut offers 40 bed spaces in basic dormitory rooms. Meals are simple: pasta, polenta, and grilled meat. The kitchen can accommodate dietary requests with advance notice. There's no hot shower—this is a working refuge, not a hotel. Water comes from the mountain. The hut is open mid-June to September, weather permitting. Winter and shoulder seasons are negotiable; contact ahead. Mobile signal is patchy; bring a paper map.
